Review: Wizard’s First Rule [The Sword of Truth #1] 4/5 (1)
All , Fantasy / March 30, 2018

Review: So in a spring of the moment I changed my mind (again!) and decided to put aside the Wheel of Time in favor of The Sword of Truth series by Terry Goodkind. It just felt right and here I am, done with the first book – Wizard’s First Rule.

I read a few books of the series maybe a decade ago but I never finished them all so I think it is high time I did that.

I remember I was super in love with them and found them mesmerizing and amazing. The bestest, as Rachel would say (if you have read the book you’ll know who Rachel is 😀 )

Review: Magic Strikes [Kate Daniels #3] 5/5 (1)
All , Fantasy / March 29, 2018

Review: If I put as much passion into work as I put into reading… well, I might start going places 😀 I need to find a job reading books and getting paid for it…

Anyway, I finished with Magic Strikes by Ilona Andrews, third book of the series about Kate Daniels, about 8 am this morning. Yes, I did read all night. Sue me. Now I’m so hooked that I may do something stupid like stay up all night before a work day. I haven’t felt so pumped up since the last Skulduggery Pleasant book but the latter lacked something Kate Daniels’ books are full of – romance, sexual tension and heavy dose of heavy language. Everything else is there – the humor, the fighting, the mystery, the monsters and of course the bad-ass characters.

Review: Magic Burns [Kate Daniels #2] 4/5 (1)
All , Fantasy / March 27, 2018

Review: I can’t say I am surprised that I finished the second book about Kate Daniels in a single week. Ilona Andrew‘s series is one heck of a page-turner and it simply doesn’t let you sit around, ignoring it. Magic Burns is the second book and what any one of you would need to get hooked up on the series (if the first book didn’t seal the deal already).

In the center of the story is our beloved, foul-mouthed, quick-thinking Kate Daniels, a merc with a dark secret and soft spots for orphans. In this installment Kate has her hands full – she is hired by the Pack to retrieve stolen maps (three times!), Red (a street kid who helped her with Derek in the previous book) decides to collect on the favor she owes him and asks her to look after Julie (his thirteen-year-old girlfriend); on top of all the world is about to experience a flare – an occurrence that happens every sever years where the magic energy grows exponentially and becomes highly unstable – causing unexpected problems all around.

Review: Magic Bites [Kate Daniels #1] 4/5 (1)
All , Fantasy / March 23, 2018

Review: Magic Bites by the duo Ilona Andrews is a book long overdue in my reading list. First one from the series about Kate Daniels, it is supposed to be interesting, action-packed and make me fall in love with and/or want to be Kate. Or at least that’s what Asya’s Adventures ORL keeps telling me.

I started reading Magic Bites in my short break from ‘The Sword of Truth: Stone of Tears’ and I didn’t realize when I finished it in a single breath (okay, maybe two). Rather short but full with events and action, it is easy to read and so entertaining every time I look at the page count I am 30+ pages in.

Review: The Picture of Dorian Grey 3/5 (1)
All , Classics , Fantasy / March 2, 2018

Review: The Picture of Dorian Gray is the only novel of the infamous author Oscar Wilde, and one that I find strangely controversial. I rarely read classics (like everybody else, don’t lie) but I was really looking forward to this one. It was mainly due to movies I’ve watched some time ago – the adaptation on ‘Dorian Gray‘ from 2009 and the TV Series – Penny Dreadful. And unfortunately I have to say that I was more interested in the movie adaptations than the book (and that says a lot).

Review: Death Bringer [Skulduggery Pleasant #6] 5/5 (2)
Adventure , All , Children Literature , Fantasy / January 19, 2018

Review: Death Bringer is the sixth book of the Skulduggery Pleasant series by Derek Landy, and if you ask me (wait for it) the best book so far! You didn’t see that coming, did you? OK, maybe you probably did because I said this for every previous book but… it’s true, I swear! I can’t decide if I am just getting more immersed and invested in the world and that’s why I like it or it’s just getting better and better. Wait, I’ve decided – it does get better and you’ll see that for yourself.

Review: Mortal Coil [Skulduggery Pleasant #5] 5/5 (1)
Adventure , All , Children Literature , Fantasy / January 15, 2018

Review: We are now on the fifth book of the Skulduggery Pleasant Series, Mortal Coil, by Derek Landy and by now you should all be going crazy about the Skeleton Detective and his smart-mouth partner, Valkyrie. Honestly, I am currently pumped up after reading the last book (just finished #6 and you’ll be getting that review soon) so I may be a bit incapable of being impartial in this. Scratch that, I don’t remember ever being impartial when it comes to a book I like.

Review: Dark Days [Skulduggery Pleasant #4] 5/5 (1)
Adventure , All , Children Literature , Fantasy / January 12, 2018

Review: Dark Days is the fourth book of the famous series Skulduggery Pleasant by Derek Landy and my favorite one so far. I will go ahead and assume you have already read the previous ones – with this one you can expect a great amount of action, dark and witty humor, punching, threatening and boasting. And, yeah, and some dark, ominous prophecy.

To be honest with you, I don’t necessary think this is the best of Landy’s books but it certainly made me twice as invested in the story and in the characters.

Review: The Faceless Ones [Skulduggery Pleasant Series #3] 5/5 (2)
Adventure , All , Children Literature , Fantasy / January 8, 2018

Review: The Faceless Ones is the third book of the famous series Skulduggery Pleasant by Derek Landy and the beginning of the darker, more serious themes of the stories. It still retains its humor and witty conversations(in less quantities, unfortunately) but it is painfully obvious that Stephanie has grown and with that, the point of view changes.

Valkyrie is already fourteen(I think? I am on the next book so the age is kind of fuzzy already) and she is training in Elemental magic with Skulduggery while following him around murder scenes and trying to investigate murders.

Review: Playing with Fire [Skulduggery Pleasant Series #2] 5/5 (3)
Adventure , All , Children Literature , Fantasy / January 5, 2018

Review: Playing with Fire is the second book of the famous series Skulduggery Pleasant by Derek Landy. Much like the first one it is full of mad adventures, remarkable humor and another villain, Baron Vengeous, who is out to destroy the world and bring back the Faceless ones. I had read the first book some time ago and when I sat to write its review recently I remembered how much I actually enjoyed it so I decided ‘Heck, high time to finish the series!‘ and one day later I am writing this…
